We have tried to provide all that we think you require before travelling to the Cape Verde Islands. The islands that make up the Cape Verde archipelago vary in both topography and character. With nine inhabited islands, it is impossible to cover every detail of every island, but we hope we have provided enough information to give you a flavour of the country.

Cape Verde is a fascinating country and exhibits a mixture of African, Portuguese and Brazilian influences. This mixture of influences is found in all aspects of life in Cape Verde.

The dominant theme of food in Cape Verde is fish. Fresh fish from the sea is available all over the country. In addition visitors can enjoy a stew called Cachupa.

The Cape Verdean people are infected with the love of music. They love to party and enjoy themselves and when there is live music in a bar or club, there will invariably be dancing.

There is a lot more to discover in this lovely country. This includes the loggerhead turtles, the almost constantly good weather, the mountains and the deserts and in addition the beaches. The sea is teeming with marine life and there are beautiful plants and trees to see.

Trips to see the whales are available from many of the islands. The waters around Cape Verde are a breeding ground for Humpback Whales. Whilst boat trips are organised, it is also possible to see them from some of the islands.

Cape Verde is aware of the need to respect the environment and has plans to be able to produce approximately half of its energy from renewable sources. The country is also keen to protect the wildlife such as the loggerhead turtles.

The islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Senegal. The islands vary considerably in character, some being relatively flat and desert and some being very mountainous.
